RS200 Fleet
My name is Peter Cruickshank and I am the BCYC RS200 Fleet Captain. The RS200 is a fantastic two person, non-trapeze, asymmetric, high performance racing dinghy which provides fun and excitement for helm and crew of all ages, and will remain competitive over a wide all-up weight range.
BCYC is a stunning venue with great facilities. It has a very active RS200 fleet consisting of sailors of all standards ranging from absolute beginners, recent converts to asymmetric sailing and everything in between, all the way up to regular top 10 performers at the RS200 National Championships. Lots of competition for the racers makes the RS200 fleet the most numerous, most exciting and most competitive at BCYC - but the water's there for everyone, particularly those who just wish to mess about in a 200 and may not wish to race.
For those who want to learn more about asymmetric sailing and racing, we have asymmetric training once a month over the winter, with great coaching by current and former National Champions in the RS200, 300, 400 and 800 fleets. The advice and encouragement they give can be seen in significant improvements in boat handling and race tactics through the breadth of the 200 fleet. Many of us travel to circuit events and open meetings but the fleet is still big enough that you'll find some other 200 sailor to sail against if you just want to sail at the club for the weekend.
Whilst all sailors go to sail, the reason I travel a 120 mile round trip from Cardiff to sail there is because BCYC is extremely friendly, with an approachable and enthusiastic membership who socialise both on and off the water. We are keen to welcome and encourage new 200 members which will further strenghten the current 200 fleet. Come and join us on the water and chat to us afterwards in the clubroom and bar...
